An overview of the Corpus Protagoreum : a bibliographical note on Laks and Most’s Early Greek Philosophy

Abstract

La reciente edición en nueve volúmenes de Early Greek Philosophy de André Laks y Glenn W. Most para la "Loeb Classical Library" Collection (Harvard University Press) se anuncia como la nueva obra de referencia. Esta obra pretende sustituir la edición canónica de Diels y Kranz (1952). Por ello incluye nuevas perspectivas historiográficas y doxográficas. Debido a la importancia de la obra, en esta breve nota bibliográfica me gustaría repasar la edición de los fragmentos de Protágoras en comparación con ediciones anteriores del sofista de Abdera. En primer lugar, hago un repaso histórico de la construcción del corpus protagoreum. A continuación, me centraré en las novedades que presenta la nueva edición de Laks y Most respecto a la de Diels y Kranz. Finalmente, haré algunas observaciones finales sobre esta nueva colección.

The recent nine-volume edition of the Early Greek Philosophy by André Laks and Glenn W. Most for the "Loeb Classical Library" collection (Harvard University Press) is announced as the new reference work. This work aims to replace the canonical edition of Diels and Kranz (1952). For this reason it includes new historiographical and doxographic perspectives. Due to the importance of the work, in this short bibliographical note I would like to review the edition of the fragments of Protagoras in comparison with previous editions of the sophist of Abdera. First, I make a historical overview of the construction of the corpus protagoreum. Then, I will concentrate on the novelties presented by the new edition of Laks and Most with respect to that of Diels and Kranz. Finally, I will make some ending remarks regarding this new collection.

A maioria para a "Loeb Classical Library" coleção (Harvard University Press) é anunciada como a nova obra de referência. Este trabalho pretende substituir a edição canônica de Diels e Kranz (1952). Por isso inclui novas perspectivas historiográficas e doxográficas. Pela importância da obra, nesta breve nota bibliográfica gostaria de revisar a edição dos fragmentos de Protágoras em comparação com as edições anteriores do sofista de Abdera. Primeiramente, faço um apanhado histórico da construção do corpus protagoreum. A seguir, concentrar-me-ei nas novidades apresentadas pela nova edição de Laks e Most em relação à de Diels e Kranz. Por fim, farei algumas considerações finais sobre esta nova coleção.
